Turn up the Christmas
An exciting rock/opera Christmas compilation
Calgary, Alberta – Calgary’s own Tony Rino announced today the release of a bold new rock/opera Christmas compilation Turn up the Christmas (volume eleven). Produced by Juno award-winner Russell Broom and recorded at Calgary’s award-winning OCL Studios and Broom Closet Studios, Turn up the Christmas features classic Christmas carols sung operatically with a rock soundtrack.
“Opera is life amplified,” said Rino. “The exciting combination of rock and operatic vocals offers a unique and creative twist on some of your favourite Christmas classics that are sure to amp-up your holiday season!”
Rino and Dan Owen, owner of OCL Studios and producer of the project, conceptualized the rock/opera idea during a spring brainstorm. Owen brought in Russell Broom as producer. “When you think about it,” said Broom, “classical music is really, really old pop music. This project has been a lot of fun for everyone involved.”
Rino’s big operatic voice and Broom’s powerful classic rock arrangements combine to create a bold new Christmas sound. From the driving rock of Hark the Herald Angels Sing, to the fun Feliz Navidad, to the power ballad What Child is This, you’ll want to turn up the volume past ten for Turn up the Christmas!
Turn up the Christmas (volume eleven) features many of Canada’s top musicians who have performed with many internationally known acts including:
- Russell Broom – guitarist (Jann Arden, Colin James and Sam Roberts);
- Lyle Molzan – drummer (Jann Arden, Dean Brody, Kathleen Edwards, Headstones);
- Mike Lent – bassist (Jann Arden, KD Lang, George Canyon, Chip Taylor);
